Yalçın began his career at Newcastle United's centre of excellence and joined York City as a youth trainee in 2002.[1] He made his debut for the club aged 17. He attracted interest from abroad, training with Antalyaspor for a period in 2004, and Royal Antwerp were also believed to be ready to give him a trial.[2] He was reported to have joined Darlington on a months loan in September 2004,[3] but it was later revealed that the deal, which saw David McGurk join York on loan, was only one way and Yalçın had not moved.[4] He went on to score his first goal for York against Morecambe in October 2004.[5] He had a trial at Yeovil Town in 2005.[6] He signed a new contract with York City in June 2005.[7]
Yalçın was signed by Whitby Town in February 2006 after he was released by York City.[1] Just days after joining Whitby, Yalçın went on a two-week trial with Hartlepool United.[8] He played for Scarborough in a pre-season friendly in August 2006, against Whitby, who he played for the previous season.[9] Yalçın went on trial with Scunthorpe United in 2007.[10] He joined Billingham Synthonia in August 2007.[11] In the 2009/10 he was prolific in front of goal for Stokesley Sports Club F.C., in the Northern League second division, helping them to promotion.
As his father is Turkish, Yalçın qualifies to play for Turkey and he has represented them at under-18, under-19 and under-21 levels.[2][12]
